25.3 LHS drop down add option of frequently/recently used first

Hi,

I would like that LHS drop down menu

Will have the option of frequently/recently used first.

I assume you mean the Object Type dropdown in the Schema Browser. Is that correct?

If so, there is no option for that (at this time), but if there are some object types that you don't use, you can hide them by right-click -> Configure.

I will investigate the possibility of at least the ability to manually sort that list.

In the meantime, I think the fastest way to find what you want in that list is to type the first letter. You don't even have to drop it down first. For example, type a 'P' and the drop down list will come down automatically and have only 5 items in the list.

Also the schema dropdown.

The schema dropdown is highly customizable.

Right-click -> Customize.
If you have some often-used schemas, move them to the right. They will default to a category called "Favorite Schemas" but you can name it whatever you want.

You can also have them put into your categories when connected to specific databases. (Click "When to categorize")

But...same thing holds true in the schema dropdown. Type a few letters to shorten the list.

Do those tips help or do you really want most used to auto-sort to the top?

I was not aware of the options you mentioned, and they can definitely be helpful. However, what I was suggesting is that the system should automatically present the items that are frequently used or that were used recently.

I understand. I think what you suggested is doable, but I wanted to also let you know what's possible already. Sometimes these features can be hard to find.

For this to be effective and fast, when I enter the Schema Browser, the Object Types field should automatically get focus. If I have to use the mouse to find that field and click it, the whole advantage of pressing the first letter is lost. The main benefit of a shortcut or a keyboard action is avoiding mouse usage, which is slower.
The question is: is it possible to define a shortcut that gives focus to the Object Types field in the Schema Browser?

Ok, but if I add a feature that makes the schema browser items auto-sort from most to least frequently used, aren't you still going to have to get to the dropdown to access that list?

oh - or is the whole point of this that you use "packages" (for example) most often and you want packages to be the object type that's auto-selected (instead of tables) when the schema browser opens?

If so, and I know it isn't quite the same thing, but you can at least select the default object type in that "configure" dialog that I mentioned earlier...

It could also help.

Here's another thing that may help you - Toad keeps a history of visited objects in the Schema Browser, so you can use this as a way to get to a recently used object type:

It would be useful if, when entering the Schema Browser screen, the focus would automatically move to the Object Type filter.

Useful for your case, yes, but I think it's really a matter of opinion. Right now, when a new schema browser is opened, the Schema Name drop down has focus, which also makes sense, especially since that is the top-left-most control. All you have to do is hit tab once to get to the object type dropdown.
