Quick Oracle Question: If I have a huge table and I want it to be gone,
destroyed, zilch nada.

What’s the fastest way to get rid of it?

Thanks,

Steve….

Just drop it. Find it in the SB LHS and hit the delete key. Check both options.

I don’t think it’s any faster to truncate it first, if that is what
you are asking.

That should still leave it in the recycle bin for a while. So if you really want
it gone, purge the recycle bin, too. Schema Browser, as usual.

There’s a purge option on that ‘drop table’ dialog that
bypasses the recycle bin.

Thanks. For some reason, I’d never noticed that. Just blind, I guess.

Or maybe I’ve just been trained to never really delete anything if you don’t
have to.

Pre Oracle 10G:
drop table WHATEVER cascade constraints;

10g onwards:
drop table WHATEVER cascade constraints purge;

Take it to a very secluded canyon and drop it off a cliff. So says the Oracle.

That could get you in trouble for littering. Anyone remember Alice’s
Restaurant?

I barely remember that, but yup… a fat chubby abusive cook/owner with
Alice usually getting the better of him.

That’s a great song.

I love the part about looking for a place to put the garbage – with the
dump being closed on Thanksgiving. “There, at the bottom of the cliff, we
saw another pile of garbage! We figured one big pile is better than two little
piles, and rather than bring that one up, we decided to throw ours down.”

I grew up in San Antonio, TX, and the radio station there would play that 20
minute long song once a year, on Thanksgiving.
