hi,

I’m using database 10.2 on server side and install oracle forms 6i on my system. Every thing is good with SQLPlus.

When I install toad 10.6.1.3 and connected to database and query data from any table, it is showing in boxes “㔰㜵㔰㜵㔰㜵” instead of character data.

Kindly suggest me what to do?

Thanks in Advance.

sadiq

Afternoon Sadiq,

Mind you, I suspect that the display of boxes is telling me that your
font is capable of displaying Unicode, but the characters it is getting
are invalid Unicode.

This really points the finger of total suspicion at your client. You
should install an Oracle 10g (32 bit) client on your desktop/laptop and
try again.

Oracle Forms 6i is way way way out of date. How do I know? I have to
deal with it at work on a daily basis. ☹

My database version = 10.2.0.1.0
Client version = 8.0.6.0.0
toad version = 10.6.1.3

and result is attached as bmp file.

Kindly suggest what to do?

Thanks
sadiq

Before you do anything else – you need to upgrade your Oracle client to at
least 10.2 – neither Oracle or Quest support your configuration.

10g Client was about the first (stable) client that could handle Unicode
properly. You _must_ upgrade your Oracle Client to one that handles
Unicode - 10.2 or higher would suffice.

One other point. As you have installed Forms 6i, I presume you may be
considering creating some application(s) that communicate with your 10g
database? If so, they too will suffer from the Unicode problem.

Two things I'd like you to do for me please:

1. DESC RCV\_TRANSACTIONS (the table in your bitmap).

2. Try running your SELECT \* FROM RCV\_TRANSACTIONS in the version of
SQL\*Plus supplied under your Forms 6i installation. Does it give the
correct data?

Thanks.

If you install Forms 8i then the default oracle home is changed to that one –
and that version of oracle client does not support unicode

As I replied to your earlier post – when you installed Oracle forms 6i it
changed the default home to its client which does not support Unicode. Simply
press the button on the toad connection screen next to oracle home and make sure
to point to the correct oracle home
