Connect problem when hostname=computername but no problem when IP

I have ORA-12541 problems to connect to a (local) Oracle XE installation when
TNSNAME contains
a computername (e.g. “maggie”) as hostname.
When I enter/replace the hostname by the corresponding IP (e.g. 127.0.0.1)
then connect works immediately.

So I guess there is a problem for Toad to convert computername to IP

What’s wrong? Actually I prefer to use computernames at least for remote
machines.

How can I help Toad (under 64bit Win7) to find the refering IP?

Ben

Ben:

This is not a Toad problem. It is related to your network, particularly to the DNS server(s). The DNS server is not converting the server name to its IP address. We have the problem here when the network engineers muck up the settings.
