Critical enhancement request

#1

I just found out why I have a bunch of users on 5.5 and don’t want to upgrade to newer versions of nav. There are several queryies they run that they have to save the data to a text file. For some reason nav will put all the data to the left of the column that was created.

For example:

select acct_num || tax_num || another_cool_column || keep_going || yougetthepoint

And your data will return a column of data but it’s all alligned to the left.

result looks like:

acct_num||tax_num||another_cool_column||keep_going||yougetthepoint
000123neatnamekeptgoinggotthepoint
000123neatnamekeptgoinggotthepoint
000123neatnamekeptgoinggotthepoint
000123neatnamekeptgoinggotthepoint
000123neatnamekeptgoinggotthepoint

But the data saved includes the column heading + space to make everything left aligned. This adds a lot of space and size of the files that are saved. Sometimes the users are not able to open the data that was saved.

sqlplus has a trim command that enables you to not pack spaces with your data for formatting purposes. is there a way you can make this available with sql nav? Or maybe a right justify command?

Or even better - tell me how to do this now? Maybe there is a way and I just don’t know it.

Hi Henry,

There is no option to remove the space. We have raised a CR to provide an option to trim the space as your note in the next release v6.6.

Thanks and regards,
Bruce
