Question 1: is there a way to see the commands that are issued to the database?
Answer: A program call SQL Monitor is bundled with Toad and SQL Navigator. This program will capture the SQL statements that are sent to the database.
Question 2: A customer feels that the outline may be deployed but it is not taking effect.
Answer: Oracle only uses the stored outlines that are in the “enabled” category. So simply deploying an outline does not mean that it will be used by Oracle. The Outline Manager module (Click the Outlines tab) enables you to move the stored outline to the category that you have enabled or to enable a different category. In addition to using the stored outlines in the “enabled” category, Oracle will also use the stored outlines in the category named “default”.
In the Outline Manager, you can check the “Used” column for each outline. If it is “Yes”, then the stored outline has been used. If it is “No” then the stored outline has not been used.
To open Outlines Manager, first launch Quest SQL Optimizer for Oracle, then clicked on the “Outlines” tab and you will see it.
If you cannot find the “Outlines” tab, you may have the option turned on to hide it. To show the tab, go to Options, select “Outlines” in the tree on the left, then on the right hand side check the “Show Outline Manager” checkbox. Click OK to close the Options window. There should be an “Outlines” tab displayed for you to select.
From looking at the documentation that you included for opening the Outline Manager, it looks like you have a older version of SQL Tuning. If so, you should upgrade to the most recent version of SQL Tuning which was renamed to Quest SQL Optimizer for Oracle starting with version 7.
If you are already using version 7 or later, make sure you look at the Quest SQL Optimizer help and not the Quest Central Help for information about Quest SQL Optimizer functions.
