Feature Request

#1

When adding a foreign key to a table, the referenced table is a drop down list.
The problem is that the database I’m working in probably has 200-300
tables in it. It’s a pain to have to scroll through the list every time to
find the tables I’m looking for. It would be nice if we could use a popup
box and search for table. This would be a great feature.

Thanks a keep up the great work on TOAD,

Very interesting, I have created internal enhancement request for this.

The easier intern feature might be to allow typing in the drop down box that
will autofilter or something like that. I don’t know if that’s
possible but I know that most drop down boxes will allow you to start entering
text which will jump to that location in the drop down. I tried to type in text
but wasn’t able to type any in the drop down.

The other idea I had for this was to replace the table reference, column
reference and foreign column reference with a single popup box. It would be
split in to three panels. One panel across the top, and two split panels on the
bottom. In the top panel is where you would select the table for the foreign key
reference. In the bottom right hand panel the primary key(s) for the select
table would be selected so you would know the referenced columns in the foreign
table. And in the bottom right hand corner you could select the column in the
current table to use for the foreign key constraints. This would be nice because
it would be very quick and easy to add foreign key constraints. Hopefully
I’ve explained it well enough. If not I can try and do a mockup of what I
mean.

While on the topic of foreign keys. It would also be nice if when doing a
database diagram if there was a way to either script or automatically create any
foreign key’s I created on the diagram. Right now I can manually draw
foreign key constraints, but it would be nice if I could either publish all the
new ones to a script or be able to push a button to make the changes happen to
the database. I tried to find this but wasn’t able to see any way to do
it.

Thanks,
