FW: Toad-SS-Beta -Crashes on Declared Variable on a Simple select statement. - Priority A [1 Attachment]

[ Attachment(s) from Hank Freeman included below]

Toad-SS-Beta having difficulty handling Declared variables as depicted in the
below graphic…

I have experienced this many time, but could never really pin-point the
reason… Now I have.

Note: This has been an issue since 4.6

The application faults on the Select @ where I was trying to type in Select
@This_Day … Support bundle included…

The Reason, for the fault in the Auto-Complete has the declarative from another
editor session, but this particular session, the variable has not yet been
declared…

/** works **/

set @This_Day = datepart (weekday, getdate ())

select @

The error does not occur if you make sure the Declarative for @This_Day has been
made.

It should be noted that the Set statement was from a copy and paste and that may
be a factor.

The problem as I see it is that the Auto-Complete logic is not refreshing from
editor session to editor session and the graphic below show this to be the case
for @This_Day … I believe this error is very easy to reproduce.

/** works **/

declare @This_Day char ( 1 )

set @This_Day = datepart (weekday, getdate ())

select @This_day as ‘@This_Day’ – the day of the week, which is 1-7 where 1 is
Sunday

Not directly related to your autocomplete problem, but datepart() with “weekday”
parameter is very dependant on datefirst setting, and language, indirectly:

SET DATEFIRST 5 – try with different values (1-7). You get similar effect with
“SET LANGUAGE …”

select ‘@This_Day_wrong’ = datepart ( weekday , getdate () ), – wrong formula

@This_Day_correct’ = datepart ( weekday , getdate () + @@datefirst - 1 ) –
correct formula (not dependant on datefirst and language).

  • today is Monday

Another thing: Why do you store number 1-7 into char(1)? Appropriate type would
be tinyint (0-255).

Kind regards,
