is it a simple matter to give someone else my customizations

#1

Can I simply copy my Toad INI file to a common directory and have people copy
onto their computer.

I am often leery about simple solutions. So I would like comments on what to
look out for.

after 48 years there are probably too many options which have gone defunct,
bloating the file, so I’d just have them start fresh

In fact, it’s still disputed whether Toad ran on ENIAC or the
AtanasoffBerry Computer first…

The reason I asked is that somebody is agitating for a “standard set of
Toad options” that are created and everybody must use.

#5

That must be a really popular person J I can see enforcing password, formatting,
and connection/threading options, but that sounds a bit overkill.

#6

well the “must” part isn’t supported anyway. I hope it never is. But if it is,
we’ll have to offer ways to disable the enablement of the safety overrides, to
help the preventers turn off the features which the override options allow you
to use.

Well… I could understand having the same formatter options that everyone
uses so the code formatting is standard, or having the same print font as those
documents are likely to be shared with others, but I’ll have to agree with
Jeff with regards such options as font color preference: sounds like overkill on
micro-management. A level that would be practically impossible to
“police” I’d think.

Perhaps if you haven’t already, you could suggest only those settings that
are meaningful that would be beneficial between team members should be
duplicated? The formatter options file is pretty easy to share, we do that
ourselves.

I personally don’t believe in standard customizations. I have strong
feelings about only 2.

But what would be useful is a default file that new users could copy

Ahh… we’ve done that ourselves in the past. I was also the one
relied on to set up those files. There was a list I was making use of for the
installations up to 9.7.1.1.

I was recently bumped up to 10.6.1.3 as a pilot tester (with the usual
expectations). Initially I was under a very strong impression that the options
were getting stored in multiple files instead of the single file. If I get that
worked out so I can provide a list of what makes sense for the default install,
I’ll certainly share that info.

What I have currently done is provide a file of screen shots of my options. But
that is an extremely cumbersome operation. I would like Toad to create a
“PRINTABLE VERSION” of the options file. Sort of like some web pages
do. then that file could easily be saved and people could make there own changes
while looking at the file.
