Labor Day holiday....

I figured it had been a bit quiet in here today, then on the way home
tonight (from work - yes, I started a new contract today!) it was
mentioned that the New York Stock Exchange was closed for the Labor Day
Holiday.

It occurred to me, as I was stuck in traffic and had nothing better to
think about, that it was strange to have a holiday named Labor Day.
Labor meand work, toil, etc doesn’t it? So how come it’s a holiday?

Or is it like the World Series Baseball, where only Canada and the USA
take part - foxed me for years that one until it was mentioned that
“World” is a name and not the globe thing where we all live!
