Newbie: how to campare columns in 2 tables?

#1

Hi

I am trying to compare columns in 2 different tables. What is the starting point? It looks like the code tester is a software only aimed to test code and not just data. Is this correct? Why do we have to select a procedure/function/package when starting a new test definition? In my case, I just want to compare data and not test code.

Thanks,
Pauline.

Well, the name says it all: Code Tester…

Why don’t you just use SQL to compare the data from the two tables? Something like:
(SELECT col
from table1
MINUS
select col
from table2)
UNION ALL
(select col
from table2
MINUS
select col
from table1
)

If you are looking for a tool to assist you in testing the contents and/or structure of 2 or more tables, I would highly reccommend either Toad for Oracle or Toad for Data Analysis.

If you need to compare more than 2 tables at once, then Toad for Data Analysis probably has the better setup at the moment.
