Objects search ;(

#1

I’ve tried to use object search… But its far away may expectation [maybe only
mine]

  1. result is a list… and nothing usable can be done with.
  2. I cannot export / copy [to clipboard] items
  3. There is no ‘fast view’ of code - i have to double click on item to open
‘objects details’, then switch to script tab then press ^F then reenter text I;m
    looking for…

[imho] there should be as follow:
I select on item and code is displayed below [for all marked items]
text I looked for is marked and first occurrence is selected [option:
bookmarked]

I understand, that you are reusing existing objects but if I have to pay for
tool which expect for more action than I do today to receive less I will rethink
buying it.

today I use my sql template. Maybe it is not offering as many option as your
window, but requires from me far less activity

declare @txt varchar(1000)
select @txt = ‘’ – szukany tekst

declare @sql varchar(100)
select @sql =’’
select @sql ='exec sp_helptext ’

select distinct @sql+object_name(id) from syscomments where text like
‘%’+@txt+’%’

then result is copied as query and run again [result to text].

Hi Motyl,

For your questions below:

  1. It is not a simple list, there are a lot of actions available from context
    menu for each item.

  2. I was able to copy the list to clipboard with Ctrl+C or Ctrl+Insert
keys. Can you please double check?

  3. This is just Object Search =) But I created Enhancement request 81709 for
this particular item to think about this with dev team for future. Personally I
    like this idea J

As addition, you can simplify your actions by using Generate SQL from context
menu on selected item.

Thanks for your comments.

Hi Motyl,

ok. I’ve found it even before. Basing on my practice - such form is ok for
objects like tables and so on

but working with procedures / trigger requires to work with its bodies [mainly].

It means, that all those information about privileges and so on are important
and useful, but

it is not primary need.

  1. I was able to copy the list to clipboard with Ctrl+C or Ctrl+Insert
keys. Can you please double check?

Yes, it works. But [;)], to select and copy all objects I have to click within
‘red’ area, then press ^A to

select all rows [I was not able to do it with mouse] and only then copy. Imho
not so easy

My suggestion is to select all results by double clicking on ‘blue’ box.

Ok, so lets make it more useful

What about option:

  • find whole word only [ to find eg: dorm, not dormant - ‘exact math’ will found
    both]

  • search /skip comments
