Poll on Flash Movies - Let us know what you think!

#1

Hello All,

A little poll on our flash movies has been launched today. See the question on the right in the Toad Data Modeler BETA main discussion: Do you find our flash movies a sufficient source of information on the product?

Feel free to watch our flash movies in the Library section:
http://modeling.inside.quest.com/kbcategory.jspa?categoryID=30
(Note:You need to log in to see the movies.)

and let us know if they are helpful and informative enough, or what documentation you prefer.

Thanks for taking part in this poll!
BTW: You can evaluate each movie you watch. See the Rating options at each movie detail.

Have a nice day!

Regards,

Vladka

Hi all the TDM Team!

It is a good idea to give briefing movies to TDM users - e-learning becomes more and more popular every day

My two impressions (these are just suggestions - not the criticism, really):

  1. Why are you asking if a movie is below or over “average rating”? “Poor (…) Excellent” is the standard set of answers for all your documents. IMHO such kind of answer is not enough valuable for you. The quality of all movies is very similar (and very good). Content of all movies is extremely well prepared. I’m neither the documentation specialist nor statistician, but I think you’d rather ask your beta-testers how are they familiar with TDM or any other DB design tools and then ask them if the specific movie was helpful for them or not. After asking such questions you would be able to divide your set of all movies into categories and to state which movies should be “mandatory” for new TDM users, which enhances knowledge and increases productivity of advanced DB designers or which movies may be useful to prepare a kind of “quick start usage guide” for the final, commercial relase of TDM3.

  2. You should set uniform progress bar look for all movies and add buttons for skipping slides one by one backward and forward - it would be useful during learning process.

Regards,
Marcin

Hi Marcin,

Thanks for your feedback on our movies!

Here I’m with some comments.

  1. As you write, the average rating is a standard set that is also available in the system we use for our community. I think it’s good for a quick feedback on the movies.

  2. The quality of all movies is very similar (and very good). Content of all movies is extremely well prepared.

Thank you for your feedback. I’ve very happy you find our movies helpful!

  1. I’m neither the documentation specialist nor statistician, …ask them if the specific movie was helpful for them or not.

Yes, we plan to make more polls on the movies in the future.

  1. After asking such questions you would be able to divide your set of all movies into categories and to state which movies should be “mandatory” for new TDM users, which enhances knowledge…

This is a great idea! Thanks for this suggestion! We will try to make some categories for movies with the commercial release.

At the moment, all in TDM 3 is new and there are plenty of great new features we’d like to show and inform you about. It’s hard to strictly divide the movies into categories now. It would be great if users watch all of them.
Anyway, we’ve taken some steps that might help you to better orientate in the movies (there are 17 movies available now!).

Please read the information at:

  1. You should set uniform progress bar look for all movies…

We’ve just fixed this. Thanks for your notification!

  1. …add buttons for skipping slides one by one backward and forward…

Thanks for your suggestion. Now, the progress bar might help you - simply click where you like to get back in the movie.

If you come across any problem or have any suggestion, please write us!

Regards,

Vladka & TDM Team
