Restore Database Improvements are appreciated

#1

Just a quick note to say thanks for improving the restore database from file
options.

One UI oddity to report:

If you select a file on the Source view, then change to the destination view and
update the Restore As Path, if you click back on the Source view, then return to
the Destination view, the path you updated is reverted back to the original path
from the file selected, even though no changes were made on the source tab.

Here’s an example:

First it shows the defaults from the file:

Then I change the Restore As path:

For whatever reason (in my case, to double-check the filename of the .bak) I go
back to the Source tab:

Now go back to the Destination tab:

Notice that the file path has now reverted to what it was before. That’s
pretty annoying since I didn’t change anything on the Source tab.

Other features I wish I had:

Darren,

We glad that you like our improvements. Thank you for the input.

First of all. I’ve created CR81643 for the issue with resetting location
path. For about your second suggestion – I think that it’s
reasonable in this particular case, CR81694.

But I want to confirm this statement from your first request:

A button just above the Restore As form to set the restore path to the same
location as the .bak file selected.

It seems to us that this is not typical use case that you store your Database at
the same location as back up files. Don’t you think that it is not safe to
do so?

Also I want to pay your attention that we made a bit more improvements that will
be available in next Beta build:

  1. Access keys were added to the Restore Database dialog

  2. ‘From File’ checkbox will be selected by default if you invoke
this dialog from Databases node (instead of invoking from a particular db)

Your feedback is appreciated.

regards,

Alexander Maximov
