Have you tried just using the 2nd oracle home in Toad? (In the “Connect Using” dropdown).

If that doesn’t work, you can start looking at settings, making sure things are in path, etc, but I’ve found that the easiest way to get everything right is:

1. remove all oracle clients from your computer. Make sure the folders are gone and in the registry, HKLM\Software\Oracle is gone, and HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\Oracle is gone. Make sure entries to your oracle client folders are gone from your path.

2. Reinstall a 32 bit Oracle client if you have 32 bit Toad, or a 64 bit Oracle client if you have 64 bit Toad.

If you need to have more than one Oracle client installed for some reason, then start with the oldest version first and move towards the newest.

If you installed more than one Oracle client, set up a TNS\_ADMIN environment variable and put your tnsnames.ora file there. If you only have one Oracle client, then either use TNS\_ADMIN, or just use the network\admin folder of your one oracle client.
