Hi all,

I am trying to join the evaluation of Toad for Oracle 12.7 Beta. I have installed this version, but when I try to start it, it won’t start. I am getting ‘Toad has encountered an unexpected error’ message. I contacted Dell Support about this issue, they recommended that I install Toad for Oracle 12.6 before installing 12.7 Beta. I did just that but still not able to get Toad for Oracle 12.7 Beta to start. The version 12.6 works correctly and I am able to connect to the Oracle database. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Seyed

Hi Seyed,

The beta version of Toad for Oracle 12.7 requires that the last commercial version of Toad for Oracle be installed and licensed on your machine. It won’t work
with the Trial edition or the Freeware edition of Toad for Oracle. Based on the error you’re receiving, I don’t think that’s the issue you’re running into, but I wanted to let you know of that restriction to begin with.

Based on the error you’re receiving, it sounds like you don’t have a full installation of the beta product. Make sure you download and follow the instructions
from:

[http://www.toadworld.com/products/toad-for-oracle/toad\_for\_oracle\_beta\_program/default.aspx](http://www.toadworld.com/products/toad-for-oracle/toad_for_oracle_beta_program/default.aspx)

Each beta has a time restriction attached to it, so you’ll need to first download and install on of the base installations (depending on whether you want 32-bit
or 64-bit); and after that’s installed, you’ll need to download and install the matching “Update Beta” link. Once both have been installed, you should be able to launch TOAD successfully.

Let us know if you continue to run into problems launching the beta and we’ll see if we can take further steps to track down the problem you’re experiencing.

Thanks!

-John

After you download the zip file and unzip it, there will be 3 files. Run the install.bat file and it will run the MSI and then the MSP. Otherwise, if you do it manually, make sure you do it in that order - MSI first and then run the MSP

John and Dennis,

Thank you for your assistance, I followed your instructions and after downloading the zipped file from the link in John’s email, I unzipped the file and then ran the install.bat file. When the “TOADORACLE\_BETA\_127\_X86.MSI” was running, I changed the destination folder from the default of “c:\Program Files\Dell\Toad for Oracle 12.7 Beta” to “D:\Dell\Toad for Oracle 12.7 Beta”. The install.bat file then ran the “TOADORACLE\_BETA\_127\_X86.MSP” and finished the installation. I tried launching Toad for Oracle 12.7 Beta again, Toad, didn’t do anything and didn’t display any errors either.

So what else can I do to resolve this issue?

Thank you very much,

Seyed

Sounds like it’s having an issue with the directory you changed to. Have you tried just taking the default to see if that works?

Make sure you have no Toad.exe processes running in task manager before installing. Since it crashed before perhaps there’s a rogue process out there.

Try doing a r-click and ‘Run as Administrator’ to see if that helps at all

When I right click on the install.bat file, there is no option to run as administrator. I could only unblock the file.

Hi Seyed,

It sounds like something either got corrupt in your Windows installation, or you have a “managed” workstation, or perhaps that option was removed by your system
administrator. I would first double-check with your system admin in your company to make sure that option should be available.

Microsoft has some additional information when this context menu is missing:

[http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows\_vista-security/the-run-as-administrator-option-is-missing-from/18aaa1a3-988f-40e3-847e-d0689888c6c6](http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-security/the-run-as-administrator-option-is-missing-from/18aaa1a3-988f-40e3-847e-d0689888c6c6)

You may be able to get around the missing item in the context menu by using Method 1 on their site. Alternatively, here are some other options for running
an application as administrator:

Hopefully this will help!

Thank you all for your input. While trying to run Toad as an Administator and not finding that option, I thought to try installing Toad for Oracle 12.7 Beta on my secondary workstation and give that a try. I installed Toad for Oracle 12.6 Commercial and then Toad for Oracle 12.7 Beta on my other workstation. Toad for Oracle 12.7 Beta now launches and I can logon. There are other issues that I am encountering mostly ‘Access violation’ messages which will require a new post. Thanks again to all who helped with this issue.

Seyed - somehow you sent a different post in that went to a different part of TW, instead of replying to this thread. Can you please explain what exactly your issue currently? Please provide as much detail as possible. Also, please provide what O/S your running on, if it’s 32/64-bit, what Oracle client your using, DB version, etc. Thanks.
