Version question

Wouldn't the next version be 2025.1 (R1)?

There is a 2025 R1 release scheduled for January that is the same code base as 2024 R2, but with some licensing changes to support new offerings. The next major feature release is 2025 R2.

Got it, thanks. So the 2025 R2 beta will run until November of 2025?

It would be nice to get features like faster startup, less GDI/user objects before the end of next year.

I believe we are still on track for a spring release of 2025 R2.

Hey Chris:

It would be nice to get features like faster startup, less GDI/user objects before the end of next year.

Have you had a chance to try this stuff in beta? Just wondering what your experience with the GDI usage has been...

-John

Just tried it.

First workspace started in 220.2.61 created 6838 GDI objects and took ~2:31 to load.

2024.2 on the same workspace created 8732 GDI objects and took ~2:53 to load.

So it looks like there was about a 21% reduction in GEI objects, and about a 13% reduction in load time.

The load times are just done with a stopwatch. But it's a bit hard to know when the workspace is officially done loading, so there is definitely some error in my timing results.

It would be nice to get more reduction, but I think this should still be helpful for anybody that hasn't changed their registry settings to help avoid crashes.

Thanks!
Chris

Thanks for the info. In beta, with that load of GDI Objects, the Schema Browser will release most of its usage each time you click "Refresh all" or "Refresh RHS". Schema Browser has much more potential to use GDI objects than Editors (depending on how many different object types and RHS tabs you visit). So that should help keep it from climbing due to Schema Browser usage.

I don't think we can squeeze any more reduction out of Editor or SB.
