What is Quest SQL Optimizer for Oracle Common?

Hello, I guess everyone can tell that I am new to this but when installing the software I stumbled upon the Quest SQL Optimizer for Oracle Common v3.0, I am wondering how this is different from the Quest SQL Optimizer for Oracle v 8?

Hi, The Quest SQL Optimizer for Oracle Common is the installer that is embedded with the 3rd party components. They are all assemblies installed into GAC and necessary for the product Quest SQL Optimizer for Oracle v8.

Its interesting you mention that, but I installed the Optimizer v8 and it installed fine. Then I kicked off the common.exe and it just ran executing a bunch of scripts. Wonder if I hadn’t executed the common.exe would the optimizer work?

What is the common.exe? The one I mentioned is that the msi installer embedded into the Quest SQL Optimizer for Oracle v8 Installer. It has to be installed for the optimizer work.
