Windows Authentication when not connected to network - why does it fail?

ISSUE #1 – Windows Authentication doesn’t work when not plugged into

I’ve got a copy of SQL 2008 on my notebook computer.

When I’m on my corporate network, I can connect to it from Toad using
Windows Authentication.

When I’m off my corporate network, Windows Authentication stops working in
Toad, but continues to work in SSMS.

If I try to connect in Toad I get error:

“A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing
a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible.
Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to
allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not
open a connection to SQL Server)”
