Date to use in email subject and body

I'm new to Toad Intelligence Central. I'm trying to insert a beginning date and ending date in the email subject line and in the body of an email.

I try using a variable using current_date() and then inserting the variable in the email subject line and the body but I get the date in this format: 2020-05-12 00:00:00.000.

My question: how can it get it in this format: mm-dd-yyyy format?

Or even better, is there an better way to do this besides using a variable?
