Evening Hickend,
I've never seen this group this quiet for this long.
It has been a tad quiet recently hasn't it?
Is something wrong?
Maybe just the opposite! Everything is fine, so no-one has anything to
post about?
I'm playing with Toad 10 GA myself and enjoying it. No problems for me
so far. All I need now is Toad for Firebird and my life will be complete!
Cheers,
Norm. [TeamT]
I joined the group yesterday and this is the first email that I have received from the group. I was wondering myself…
Grab yourself a ODBC driver for Firebird and fire up Toad for Data Analysts
Norm, and you should be good to go!

The only thing wrong is Norm posting to this list well into the evening!
Other than that, if you'd like some more activity, the first beta for the
new version has just been released, so that list should become much more
active now. See http://toadfororacle.com for joining instructions.
Enjoy!

Disclaimer: "2012" -- "Independence Day" without the aliens.
Sometimes around the holidays, it gets a little slow. Still, it is a little surprising since we just released v10. Guess Toad is perfect now!
Hi Bonnie,
I joined the group yesterday and this is the first email that I have
received from the group. I was wondering myself...
It has been very quiet recently, but I suspect that it will start up
again very soon. Failing that, there's always (usually) a little Friday
Silliness - Friday's are Talk Like A Pirate Day for some strange reason.
Cheers,
Norm. [TeamT]
Evening Rich,
The only thing wrong is Norm posting to this list well into the evening!
ALison has gone out with the girls, I have the house to myself, so I
thought I'd catch up on my emails.
We can stay up late in the UK sometimes you know. Besides, it's a cold
wet miserable night.
Makes you glad to be alive!
And, I have a new Toad Handbook to read later too.
Cheers,
Norm. [TeamStayingUpLateT]
Hi Jeff,
Grab yourself a ODBC driver for Firebird and fire up Toad for Data
Analysts Norm, and you should be good to go!
Sorry, real DBAs don't go anywhere near ODBC. I cannot possibly begin to
even contemplate thinking about that route!
I'm not all that fond of T4DA because it's not Toad For DBAs. It's a
good product, I admit, but not for what I need to do.
But nothing with ODBC will ever "pass my lips"!
I actually use IBExpert when I need a GUI to access my Firebird stuff.
Cheers,
Norm.
Guess you can get your bonus $$ now and take off the rest of the year.
It’s as close as you’re going to get for now unfortunately…and
you’re right of course, it’s not intended for administration or
development, just querying.

Was wondering if have you heard any news from IOUG..do they have a website so us
mere mortals can catchup on the goings-on?

It's too bad TORA doesn't support firebird natively. It looks like it
would support it through odbc, but as you said odbc has some major
issues, especially with complex queries.
Maybe drop a line to the TORA developers anyway? They support POSTGRESQL
natively, maybe they'd add firebird support as well.
Also while I haven't used firebird at all, FlameRobin seems to be the
GUI that is being pushed the hardest. Doesn't sound like an IDE, but
since you say all you really need are DBA style tools, maybe it would
fit your needs?
I wanna say the TOra project is no longer in development, or at least it’s
very limited at this point.

It's active, but under very slow development. Version 2.1.1 came out in
October. http://torasql.com/News#tora_2.1.1

Yes, Flame Robin is a good one. However, you have to compile it
yourself! I'm unable to do that here, hence I have ibExpert which comes
ready compiled. I do use FlameRobin at home on Linux though.
Cheers,
Norm. [TeamT]
PS. I write the docs for Firebird!
