Minimal Impact on TIC Upgrade - 6.0.0.7 > 6.4.1

What would be the best way to TIC 6.0.0.7 (installer 5.7.1.8) to 6.4.1 (latest) with minimal impact?

My company have a contract with Quest and I already have the installation packages. I cannot run an upgrade over Internet as the servers resides on a restricted network layer.

What would be the best way to upgrade without the need to go thru whole setup again and not having both versions installed on system? I’m looking for the least problematic manner of upgrading, reducing impact and after work to the most.

Thanks.

Hello,

Thank you for contributing to the forum with your post.

Firstly, it is important to clarify your current setup.

If you are running TIC 6.0.0.7, that would mean that it had been installed via either the 1) .msi installer - ToadIntelligenceCentral-x64-6.0.0.7.msi (contains the installation of TIC) or 2) the bundle installer ToadIntelligenceCentralServerInstaller-6.0.0.34.exe (which contains both TDP and TIC installations).

The installer 5.7.1.8 that you mentioned in your post would be the bundle installer for version 5.7.1 (ToadIntelligenceCentralServerInstaller-5.7.1.8.exe

).

With that being said, running the latest TIC installer actually upgrades your TIC to the new version, and it does not install another instance of TIC.

Allow me to break it down, depending on the installer that you would use:

  • if you run the latest .msi installer (ToadIntelligenceCentral_6.4.1.35502.x64.msi). Your TIC 6.0.0.7 will be upgraded to the latest version (6.4.1).
  • if you run the latest bundle installer (ToadIntelligenceCentralServerInstaller_6.4.1.35562.exe), it will:
    • Upgrade TIC to the latest 6.4.1 version
    • Install Toad Data Point 6.4.1 on your system (which would be installed alongside lower versions of TDP that are present on the TIC machine).

The TIC upgrade process is straightforward and it does not entail re-setting the same TIC parameters, but only requires clicking on the Upgrade button, entering the Administrator password and setting the location for a backup of TIC data (which is optional).

thank you by the reply @milos.djordjevic

I’ve just downloaded the packages from Quest, do have the ToadIntelligenceCentralServerInstaller_6.4.1.35562.exe bundle installer and other packages as well (ToadDataPoint_pro_6.4.1.35541.x64.exe, ToadDataPoint_pro_6.4.1.35541.x64.msi, ToadIntelligenceCentralServerInstaller_6.4.1.35562.exe, ToadIntelligenceCentral_6.4.1.35502.x64.msi) and, will use the bundle installer as suggested - appreciated.

About TDP, I assume it’s safe to remove the previous TDP version after latest one is installed - correct?

Best practice would be to start the latest TDP (6.4.1) after the installation is completed and then migrating the settings from the previous version of TDP that was installed. This is achieved by selecting the previous TDP version and clicking on Migrate in the pop-up dialog that will appear after starting the latest TDP for the first time:

After the settings are successfully migrated, you can move forward with uninstalling the previous version.
