OCI version is not supported.

Hmmm, yup, that sounds right.

The order in which the bin directories are listed can cause a problem though.

Norm!

I know I can have a new PATH when I start a CMD session, change the PATH
and run an application from within that CMD session, but I don't know if
that's what you mean?

FWIW, the CMD "session" is a 16-bit app. When it starts, it makes a local
copy of PATH and operates solely on that copy. You can see this in practice
in two ways (I did this from XP SP3, if it matters):

  1. Start->Run->CMD
  2. Type "PATH"
  3. Type "set PATH=%PATH%;C:\bleah"
  4. Type "PATH"

You have added a new path element, but only for that CMD. Keeping that CMD
window up, do this:

  1. Start->Run->CMD
  2. Type "PATH"

You should see your original PATH only. With both windows still up, modify
your Windows environment PATH variable (BE VERY CAREFUL -- DON'T BLAME
ANYONE BUT YOURSELF IF YOU SHOULD HOSE UP YOUR PC OR ANYTHING ELSE BY
FOLLOWING THESE STEPS!):

  1. RC on "My Computer" and choose "Properties"
  2. "Advanced" tab.
  3. "Environment variables" button on the bottom.
  4. Edit a "Path" variable (I chose a System variable).
  5. Append ";C:\Bleah" to it and click "OK"
  6. Click "OK" on the "Evironment Variables" window.

Check the PATH in both open CMD windows -- no change! Open a new CMD window
and viola!

Don't forget to undo the PATH changes from the 6-step process above.

Enjoy!

I know, I use it regularly in exactly this manner.

Hey! I work in IT, I know what I'm doing.
Oops!

Yes, been there done that too.

In the end, I simply added the bin folder from the 10g client to her
"all users" path. Job done, everyone happy!

Like it!

Sorry, Norm. Just wanted to be sure, if only for other folks looking at
your thread in the distant future when CMD will still be a 16-bit app and
Windows is still hamstrung by drive letters.

Have a weekend!

Understood - apology completely unnecessary!

Thanks for your help.
