Hi .

This has been fixed in the latest beta. The installation checks that the
connected user has dba privileges. It was not checking for SYSDBA. If you log on
as a user with dba privliges you can install. Alternatively if you download the
latest beta it allows you to install as SYS.

Of course I’m going to ask my usual question at this point and get my
flood of replies we heard you the first 900 times.

Why the heck is anyone connecting as SYSDBA or SYS? There are very limited and
legitimate cases for doing so which I’ve blogged about. My experience is
that 95% of the people doing so are doing it because it’s easy to be super
user / root rather than doing the required work to set up properly privileged
users ….

My best guess:

They come from a windows background where you only have one user and that user
can do everything.
