Code Formatter Options Will Not Open/Expand

Dont’ know if anyone else has had this problem, but when trying to amend code formatting settings (Tools\Options\Editor\Formatter\Custom) the expand/collapse boxes do not open as expected.

I have found another user who has had a similar kind of problem but this was with Toad for Oracle but i’m hoping that a similar fix is available for Toad for SQL Server
Here’s the link to that query http://toadfororacle.com/thread.jspa?threadID=23272
(Toad 10.1.0.7 - View / Formatting Options - get error message)

Any help as always would be much appreciated

Thanks in advance

Karl

Karl,

Can you please give us more details on what do you mean by
“expand/collapse boxes do not open as expected”? Seems like I
don’t see any problems.

Thanks,

Igor.

Hi Igo

I’m unable to expand or collapse any of the options by clicking on the crosses in the Custom screen

Hopefully the image attached will help

Thanks in advance

Karl, this is not a problem in the Expert Version, what Release / version are
you using?

Professional Version v5.0.0.444

Fascinating,

I am using Toad-SS 5.0.1,544, I stopped using Professional Version v5.0.0.444
after 5.0.1 came out. So as to report problems against it…

It is my understanding that 5.0.1 was not a maintenance or patch release but a
release to include all the features intended for release 5.0.0, but could not
make a Quest deadline….

Have now uninstalled Professional Version v5.0.0.444 and re-installed using 5.01.554 and this has now corrected the problem with the formatting options not being available.

But this opens another question now, if you have Check for updates on Startup ticked does this actually do anything?

Ran the newly installed program for a little while, went back into Formatter and was unable to expand/collapse any of the categories.
The only thing i can think of is this is connected with making changes to another section in the Options screen, this maybe be wishful thinking but i’m going to try and backtrack and track down what changes i’ve made in the Options screen.

Hi Karl,
We are looking into it but do not have an answer at this time as so far we are unable to reproduce the issue.

I can’t find your Support bundle in this thread, didn’t we ask you about it? Can you please post it here or sent it to me?

Waiting any new findings from you…

Karl,

I can’t reproduce this, using Toad for Sql Server 5.0.1.544. It’s really the first time I hear of such behavior, but of course I didn’t say it couldn’t happen. To make sure I’m using the same software as you do, would it be possible to tell me the version number of the formatter options component, just go to the top node in the custom tree (“Sql Server Formatter Options”) and then click Copy Options to Clipboard. Then paste the clipboard somewhere ales. Just pass me the first line of the clipboard content, for instance:

Formatter Options GUI version 5.157.0

Then I’ll retest again using your version.

Thanks,
Andre

Hi Andre

Sorry for the delay, here’s the details as requested:

Formatter Options GUI version 5.157.0

[Qp5FormatterOptions]
Version = 145
CaseAllowFlat = 0
DmlKeywordsLeftAligned = 2
DmlRhsAlignment = 0

[PlfOptionsOracle]

5.157.0
145
0
2
0

If you need any other info please let me know

Thanks in advance

Karl

Hi there

I’ve put the Beta of 5.5 on and the problem is still the same:

Formatter Options GUI version 5.165.0

=== Text Format ===

[Qp5FormatterOptions]
Version = 145
CaseAllowFlat = 0
DmlKeywordsLeftAligned = 2
DmlRhsAlignment = 0

[PlfOptionsOracle]

=== XML Format ===

5.165.0
145
0
2
0

Thanks for the version number. But there’s really nothing that I know of that could cause that strange behavior.

I’d like you to run the formatter options program as a standalone program on your machine, if you don’t mind. You need to have the FmtOptions.exe file available in the folder where FmtOptions.dll is found. You can grab that exe from a Toad for Oracle install (any of the latest version is okay) or otherwise send me a private email and I’ll return it to you (andre.vergison somewhere in Quest).

Thanks,
Andre

All sorted by Andre, many thanks :slight_smile:

Off-topic, but I was also wondering if the updater works?

I consistently find updates for Toad products, stable or beta, on their websites, but no notifications via Toad itself…

Hi Scott

Have to agree with you, not sure what the Check for Updates function does
