I checked out the Redgate tools. We really like the TOAD query builder. They don't have something like it. So that is a non-starter.
We are considering continuing to license TOAD Data Point and dropping the TOAD for SQL Server license since many of the features don't work.
It looks like Luna will be a good replacement for Toad Data Modeler.
Do you know anything about DBEAVER?
I have used Toad for Oracle for 20ish years and when I recently inherited a series of SQL Server DBs immediately purchased Toad for SS expecting the same rich feature set and capabilities as Toad for Oracle. Much like SQL Server being a big step down for Oracle (who would think a modern DB would not support Materialized Views out of the box) I am also struggling with the lack of capabilities in Toad for SS vs Toad for Oracle which is an excellent tool. Hopefully Toad for SS will continue to improve over time, but finding this thread that goes back 15 years is concerning...
Yeah, I had the same comments in the past. I stopped even upgrading because I am afraid of features that I currently use getting broken in the newer versions. I am on version 8.0.0.65 - I have been using it for a while with no issues for what I have to do. I use toad mostly to query data and from time to time to compare schemas.
Unfortunately, this seems to be a pattern that I've seen with Sencha (owned by Idera) as well, these companies are owned by hedge funds or corporate entities that have nothing to do with software development and they just milk the subscriptions while doing minimal work. They don't even fix existing bugs. It is very sad.
I found it fascinating that they chose C# & .Net instead Delphi for the Toad for Sql Server implementation. I guess it kind of made sense to go with the Microsoft technology, but let's face it, the quality of the product suffered.
Just curious, is Toad for Oracle still actively maintained?
Toad for Oracle is very actively maintained. They release new Beta builds almost weekly. I would post issues and wants to the Beta forum and typically get a response from the crack dev team by the next business day. Most of the items I raised would then appear in the Beta within a week or two depending on the size of the change required. If you want to connect with one of the devs of Toad for Oracle I recommend pinging @JohnDorlon , he is amazing and extremely responsive to the Toad for Oracle Beta community. I posted a Bug to the SQL Server forum last week and no response so far.
I was just thinking that perhaps the reason why Toad for Sql Server is not as successful as Toad for Oracle, leaving the apps aside, it's the fact that in the Microsoft world a lot of people use SSMS or Visual Studio to access the database. SSMS is pretty much the go to tool when it comes to making database changes or running scripts. So maybe the sales numbers for TSS don't match the ones for the Oracle version and the company decided to keep the changes to a minimum. TSS became what I would call a "zombiefied" product. Just a theory 
. But it is sad because I pay a yearly subscription, and in some years they haven't produced anything for the duration of my subscription.
I only develop Toad for Oracle and have never even used Toad for SQL Server so I can't comment on that.
