Just upgraded from TOAD 9.1 to 11 and when I try to log into TOAD I get the same message:

Access violation at address 0040526E in module ‘Toad.exe’. Read of address 00000010

We’re running Oracle 11g and I can still run TOAD 9.1 on the same PC.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!

Did you download the update from support.quest.com – which requires a
valid and in force maintenance contract? You cannot upgrade using the trial
downloads J

Maybe someone else could see already what is happening, but I have some
questions now.

I see windows 7. Is it 32 bits or 64 bits? And you said you installed Toad 11?
Are you sure? I see version 10.6.1.3.

Wim

Aaargghhh. Bert, don’t remind me of “a valid and in force maintenance
contract”, please? Something went wrong somewhere and we have no
maintenance contract anymore. And I noticed this just when I tried to download
version 11 GA. Sigh. But I already contacted someone here in Holland to solve
the problem…

If you are not on maintenance (as you say) and thus cannot log in to our support
site – then you cannot legally get a copy of toad that will work with a
license key – period. If you try to install the trial and enter a
commercial non-trial key it will give an access violation. That’s the
first question that needs asked when a simple upgrade does not work. If
you’re not on maintenance then you cannot upgrade. So since you say you
are not on maintenance, then there is zero reason to download and install toad
since it won’t work.

We call him “Officer Scalzo” ‘round these parts.

Yes sir, I know sir, I apologize sir.

I’m working currently with trial 11.0.0.103 which expires on 30 September
and switch back to 10 until the maintenance contract problem is solved.
Hopefully after that moment the new beta starts?

We call him “Officer Scalzo” ‘round these parts.

That’s because the only piracy I can take is talk like a pirate Fridays J

Not trying to be a bum on this – just making sure was all ….

The betas usually check for the most recent version of toad. So you won’t
be able to use the beta unless you’re on toad 11. This is not done to
annoy you – but rather not to have bug reports and new feature requests
that already have been addressed – which our few developers simply
don’t have to handle.

Apologies – John just read me the email in the true spirit it was intended
– i.e. somehow our maintenance lapsed and we’re working on getting
it back. I simply read it the other way. Guess I’m just in a sour mood
today and should read each message four times and counting to 1oo – my bad
and I am sorry J

Yes sir, I know sir, I apologize sir.

You forgot to add:

Can I please have another sir?

Actually the quote was:

That’s ok Bert… even if you’re grumpy there seems to be a good
supply of amusing spirits today

Close… I did recall it from a movie… not the one you mentioned
though (or was that a tv series you mentioned?).

I don’t recall much, just a scene where a guy gets hit, says the
“may I have another” line, gets hit again and says he was just
kidding. Think it might have been Blade: Trinity.

I threw in the please just because!

Roger S.

Our licenses were purchased in the last 5 months and are still valid.
The weird thing is Toad for Data Analysts works ok, but not the TOAD for Oracle.

I initally had Toad for Oracle10.6 installed, but since last week, installed the Toad for Oracle 11. I am seeing similar issues on the new installation also.

Your help will be much appreciated. I have been using SQL Developer/Toad for Data Analysts to get by, but really need Toad for Oracle to work.

Thanks.

Did you do a clean install or import your old user files? If you imported, it’s
possible something got corrupted in the conversion since going from 9.1 to 10.6
is skipping 6 versions. Try deleting the user files directory and starting with
a clean install.

Greg

Please pardon my ignorance, but where do I find my user files directory.

Would it be? C:\Users<User_name>\AppData\Roaming\Quest Software
If so, I see mutliple folders in this directory. Would I delete them all?

Thanks.

That’s the correct spot. If you’re trying to start Toad 11, there should
be a folder named Toad 11. Just delete that one and try restarting Toad.

Greg

That worked like Magic.

Thanks a bunch. Aprreciate your help.

Sameera.
