Error - Access violation

I attempted to create a new model and received the following error message:

Error - Access violation at address 711289DA in module ‘jscript.dll’. Write of address 91E82447.

Windows 7 Enterprise - 64 Bit
IE 10.0.9200.17148
TDM 3.6.6.7

Any suggestions?

Hello Alan,

First, I would really advise you to update to a newer version of TDM (5.x). You’re missing out on some great features and enhancements!

About your issue - we could use some more information. The model you’re trying to create - what is its database platform and version? Does the error happen only when trying to create that one specific model, or does it happen when trying to create some other model too? Did it work before?

You might want to look at some of the problems other users had, which were related to the jscript.dll error (such as this or this, or search through the entire TDM website).

Lukas, Thanks for the reply. I work in a very large corporate environment, so updating to V5 is not an option unless it’s a free upgrade. Also, I cannot downgrade from IE 10 to 9.

I did re-register the .dll though

The error occurs when I attempt to create a new model of ANY type.

I also have TOAD for Oracle 10.6 + TOAD for Data Analysts 2.7 installed on this PC. I use TOAD DA daily. I attempted to run TDM for the first time yesterday, so it has not worked before.

Hello Alan,

version 3.6 was released in August 2010 and is no longer supported.

More info to the jscript.dll problem: Newer version of IE contains different scrpting engine that replaced the one that worked fine with version 3.6. We had to change the application code to make it compatible with newer version of Microsoft Windows and IE. Upgrade to the latest version should be the best solution.

I’m having a similar issue using version 5.4.6.12. I can usually make it happen when I copy an attribute from one table to another. There are other times it happens for no apparent reason.

Hello there,

Could you tell us how exactly do you copy the attribute between entities? When using drag&drop, you can copy the attribute on Workspace, in Model Explorer, Entity Properties or using any other combination.

Also, please check if there are not any errors in the model. Activate Expert Mode (Settings Menu | Options | General) and right-click your model in Application View. Try running Test and Repair Model, this should fix most issues in your model, if there are any.

If you still run into the error, you could try updating to TDM 5.5 where the error might have been already fixed.
