Problem with SVN file status in the Project Manager of Toad 10.6

Hello!

I encountered with the problem while getting work of SVN with my big PL/SQL project via Toad.

I successfully tuned all options for getting work SVN, now I can check in/ check out code etc. from Project Manager, but on the icons of my files under PM there are no any marks about state current file in SVN (checked, updated etc.). It’s because of my Toad version is very old?

Does anybody can help me?

Maybe - Toad 10.6 is going on 4 years old (Oct 2010) and team coding has had many, many changes and improvements since then. You really ought to try the toad 12.1 trial - or if you’re current on maintenance just login to our support site and download the latest version.

Hello! Unfortunately my company is not considering additional software licensing in the near future, so I really need getting this work in my version Toad. By the way I didn’t use any team coding features yet. On the present moment I only want to cope with indicators of files versioned via SVN in the project manager.

Hopefully Mark (Project Manager developer) will see this and reply - give him some times since I’m an early bird. It’s still early yet today for some locations. But the project manager too has seen many changes over past four years. While Mark may have some ideas - it’s also likely he too will say PM has changed too much to think/look that far back. Let’s see what he says

Hello,

The Project Manager simply allows you to execute SVN commands (check in , check out etc.) from Toad. It doesn’t do any special status checking for the objects,
so ‘lock’ or ‘checked out’ status are not visible from Toad. When you check an object out from the Project Manager, you should be see SVN lock status etc. from Windows Explorer, if you have a desktop tool like Tortoise SVN installed. Project Manager does
not interface with Team Coding in 10.6.

The Project Manager is not the window you want to use for the purpose of seeing the state of all of your controlled SVN objects. It wasn’t intended for that purpose. There are dedicated SC windows for that purpose you need to use. There is “quick and dirty” support for controlled objects within the PM, but not to the degree where the icons will reflect the state of the repository.

Hello, Stephen! In newer versions of Toad that integration between Project Manager and Team Coding is already done?

Hello, Mark! What is SC window? Could you explain me please?

No, the integration with Project Manager is the same as in 10.6.

Hi again alecm - there are dedicated windows to support Source Control in Toad…I don’t recall what they are named in version 10.6, Bert probably knows since he’s been involved in its design, and I’ll suspect he’ll jump back in here and give you an answer. But the Project Manager is not the primary window you want to be using to manage your objects. In hindsight, the support we added into the Project Manager probably should never have been done in the first place. Like so many other features, we used the adage, “well if we can do it, why shouldn’t we do it?” It was an easy, quick thing to just “drop in,” so we did. It’s really hard to overcome that bad design instinct given the Wild West way we sometimes use to write this product.

I think team coding is what you really should be looking at. There also is an older SC interface in toad not part of team coding - but that is going away soon so do not want to send you there. In any case, Stephen is the man for all those questions - I just “try” to help him without becoming a bottleneck

Aci,

There is no browse window for SC in Toad 10.6. There is a window for Team Coding. In later versions of Toad we added an Source Control VCS Browser where you
can browse and check out Source Control files from Toad.

I agree with Bert. It sounds like Team Coding is what you should be looking at. We have made quite a few changes to Team Coding since 10.6, which have made
it easier to set up and use. To echo Mark’s comments, some of the source control interfaces we have added to Toad, were relatively easy to implement, but not necessarily the best approach from an overall design perspective.

Bert and I are in looking at changes to Team Coding in attempt to address some of this. I owe Bert some feedback, which I am working on :). We do plan to
provide a single Team Coding interface, which would simplify some of the confusing aspects of Source Control in Toad.
