SQL COnnection lost afther 1 minute

#1

Hi,

Before I used the freeware version of toad sql server, I used the trail version. With the trail version I never had any problems with the connection to the DB. But Know I am using the Freeware version, and toad cannot hold the connection very long (about a minute before disconnecting from the SQL server).

I am using a windows sbs 2003 with sql server 2005 and 2008. On the server is Toad installed ( connection or latency should not be a problem?).

I tried to reconfigure toad (time-outs etc), I reinstalled Toad several times and there are no errors in the logging that I can find and deinstalled the trail versions.

Can someone help me please?

Regards

Unfortunatelly text portion from Hank’s message was lost during sync from yahoo group…
Here is his original message to you:

RE: [toadss] Re: SQL COnnection lost afther 1 minute

· The support bundle can be generated under the Help menu.

o In the Help about click on the Application Data Directory for that is where the support bundle and other important files live.

o Mine is in C:\Users*Hank_Freeman*\AppData\Roaming\Quest Software\Toad for SQL Server 5.0, where Hank_Freeman is my Userid.

See Graphics below.

Hi,
I’m trying to reproduce your issue on my environment but without success. Just to be sure:

  1. Toad and SQL Server instance are on the same host?
  2. You don’t have such issues on TSS trial version on the same environment, right?

#11

Hi Alexander,

Thanks for taking the time.

Yes the sql server (2005 and 2008) are installed on the same server where I use Toad.

The Trail version worked perfectly, without any problems.

Last few days I deinstalled toad again, removed all garbage folders (prefrences etc)(that where left behind), restarted the server en installed toad again. --> still not oke

I played with the accounts (acces with windows account and or sql accounts) --> still not oke.

When I use the MS server management studio on that same server I have no problems.

I installed Toad on a other server and I connected to the sql servers above and It worked without any problems.

The strange thing is that I still can not find a error why Toad is disconnecting.

Regards

Ok. I still can’t reproduce it in-house. I’ve installed 5.0 Freeware on XP sp3 32bit, W2k3 sp2 64bit and Toad works fine with local and remote SQL Instances. I have no idea what can cause the issue =(

Regarding finding exact error toad produces on this issue, you can try to see this file:
“C:\Documents and Settings[username]\Application Data\Quest Software\Toad for SQL Server Freeware 5.0\ExceptionTrace.log”
