One last thing, if you downloaded from the update button, then the
filename is toadfreeware.exe. Your shortcuts all point to toad.exe. Try
renaming the (expired) toad.exe to something else for now, then rename
toadfreeware.exe to toad.exe and see what happens.
Obviously, the file has to be downloaded into the freeware toad folder
where you originally installed it.
That was a no-go. I have no idea what the slight problem was, but it totally
hosed my installation. We have licensed versions, it is just a major hassle for
me to track it down at the university. I will do so, if that doesn't work, I
will be recommending we move to something else, as this is not an acceptable
outcome. Jim Craddock Data Architect University of Oklahoma School of Medicine

I have uninstalled and reinstalled, tried the update on an install, rebooted
after uninstalling before reinstalling, etc. but my toad will not run. It worked
yesterday, today it told me it was expired (despite the fact I installed it for
the first time on june 9th). Anyway, I cannot get it to run now. It keeps
telling me it is expired. Anyone have some ideas? Running Win7 x64...as I said,
it was working yesterday and started off today saying it was expired.

sorry, I suspect I'm in the wrong time zone for meaningful
communications!
That was a no-go. I have no idea what the slight problem
was, but it totally hosed my installation.
I'm not too sure how that could have happened. There are three downloads
for the free toad:
The MSI installer - used once at the very start. Creates the
installation directory etc.
The update - downloads toadfreeware.exe.
The EXE installer - same as the MSI, except it runs on Linux under
Wine for people using Toad on Linux.
The first time you run the installer, create the directory structure etc
and thereafter, simply download the update. It seems that you now have
to rename the file after download as well - or - edit the shortcuts to
point at toadfreeware.exe rather than toad.exe.
On my system, I last installed toadfree in September last year and that
has long expired. It was still called toad.exe back then. When I got
hold of the update, I too saw "expired" messages. But I looked at what
I'd downloaded and saw the name change. By fixing my shortcuts, I can
execute the latest toadfreeware.exe quite happily.
Other instructions advise renaming toadfreeware.exe to toad.exe to keep[
the shortcuts as they are.
We have licensed

at the university. I will do so, if that doesn't work, I
will be recommending we move to something else, as this is
not an acceptable outcome.
I'd be interested to know what was "hosed" and what wasn't - what did
you download, what are the symptoms etc etc. Help try and get to the
bottom of this problem. Do you have commercial Toad and free Toad on the
same box? I suspect not.
Cheers,
Norm. [TeamT]

One last thing, if you downloaded from the update button, then the filename is
toadfreeware.exe. Your shortcuts all point to toad.exe. Try renaming the
(expired) toad.exe to something else for now, then rename toadfreeware.exe to
toad.exe and see what happens. Obviously, the file has to be downloaded into the
freeware toad folder where you originally installed it. -- Cheers, Norm. [TeamT]

I started getting the error today. Do I need to re-download the .exe file?
If your version of FreeToad is 10.something, then you need to download
the UPDATE only, and extract that into the same location as your
existing version.
If you are upgrading to FreeToad 11, or if that's what's currently
available, then you need to download the INSTALLER and carry out a
complete install of FreeToad 11.
You cannot download the FreeToad 11 UPDATE and extract it into a
FreeToad 10.something install.
Also if you are upgrading from free toad 10.6 to 11.0 the full installer
for 11 will install it into a new directory. If you want to copy your
10.6 settings to 11 it looks like you will manually need to do this. I
just did this for a colleague who I helped install free toad 11. The
commercial version will prompt you to copy setting from a previous
install but it looks like the freeware does not.
After the install just copy the "user files" folder from c:\users\YOUR
USERNAME\app data\roaming\Quest Software\Toad freeware 10.6\User Files to
..\Toad Freeware 11.0\User Files
I renamed the 11.0 "User Files" folder and then copied the 10.6 "user
Files" folder over. Then started Toad and all seemed to be working.

– Cheers, Norm. [TeamT]

expired” issue. I’m running WinXP Pro. UPDATE: I downloaded the update,
tried to run it and received: Toad has encountered an unexpected error. Details:
Toad cannot access necessary installation files. Please advise. Thanks, - Pete

PDT 2011 Hi Jim, sorry, I suspect I’m in the wrong time zone for meaningful
communications! >> That was a no-go. I have no idea what the slight problem >>
was, but it totally hosed my installation. I’m not too sure how that could have
happened. There are three downloads for the free toad: * The MSI installer -
used once at the very start. Creates the installation directory etc. * The
update - downloads toadfreeware.exe. * The EXE installer - same as the MSI,
except it runs on Linux under Wine for people using Toad on Linux. The first
time you run the installer, create the directory structure etc and thereafter,
simply download the update. It seems that you now have to rename the file after
download as well - or - edit the shortcuts to point at toadfreeware.exe rather
than toad.exe. On my system, I last installed toadfree in September last year
and that has long expired. It was still called toad.exe back then. When I got
hold of the update, I too saw “expired” messages. But I looked at what I’d
downloaded and saw the name change. By fixing my shortcuts, I can execute the
latest toadfreeware.exe quite happily. Other instructions advise renaming
toadfreeware.exe to toad.exe to keep[ the shortcuts as they are. >> We have
licensed >> versions, it is just a major hassle for me to track it down >> at
the university. I will do so, if that doesn’t work, I >> will be recommending we
move to something else, as this is >> not an acceptable outcome. I’d be
interested to know what was “hosed” and what wasn’t - what did you download,
what are the symptoms etc etc. Help try and get to the bottom of this problem.
Do you have commercial Toad and free Toad on the same box? I suspect not.
