SQL Editor - Won't stop "selecting/highlighting" text

Since upgrading to toad for oracle xpert 12.1.0.22 last week whenever I press shift+arrow key to start highlighting some text it is like it gets stuck in select mode and i cannot get out of it. For example, type this is a test and hit enter. then arrow key up to the word “is” and select it by pressing shift+right arrow. from then on you cannot get out of select mode.

also, the cursor will no longer wrap around to the next line, you have to press the down arrow key to move between lines, even when you come to the beginning or end of a line.

Help!

Hey David - I haven’t been able to replicate this issue. What O/S are you running and are you running 32/64 bit?

I’m not sure what could be the issue here, so if you want to zip your user files and send those to me offline (Dennis.Paulus@quest.com), I could try
to see if I can’t replicate it that way.

Thanks,

Dennis

Also, if you don’t mind resetting your users files to the default - you could go to Utilities > Copy User Settings > Create a clean set of user files from
the base installation. When you do this, it’ll create a new set of user files with default settings and will create a copy of your existing user files as well in the ‘Toad for Oracle’ folder called ‘12.1_bak’. This would be a way to test if it’s some setting
that might be causing the problem.

I believe that your second issue is caused by an option. Do you have the cursor beyond end of line option checks in View|Options|Editor|Behavior?

Yes Michael, that was checked. I removed the check and it now works.

Hi Dennis, I am running Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit

Looks like another option may be affecting your first issue too. View|Options|Editor|Display - Is persist selection when using navigation keys checked?

If these options are not as you had set before then something went wrong during the upgrade. You may want to consider starting from fresh user files using the process Dennis outlined earlier.

I found three options for persisting the selection and unchecked them all, but it still behaved the same. Finally, I did the “create a clean set of user files” and that fixed it. I will send my 12.1.bak file to Dennis in case he would like to try and reproduce it and respond with results. THANKS!!!

Hi!

I had the same issue in TFO 11.6.0.43. I have tried all the options mentioned above and it did not fix the problem. I had a case open with DELL/Quest support but they did not find a solution to the problem. I ended up have to use a clean set of files and redo some of the customization that I originally had.It looks like this is not a “new” problem.

Is there any documentation on the entries in the various .ini files that can be made available?

Thanks,

Dave
