Tab Mode set to use tabs, but carriage return causes spaces

I am using Toad for Oracle version 9.7 and I have my tab mode set to use tabs. When I press tab, it works fine, but when I press the carriage return it put spaces where there are tabs above. I personally prefer to use spaces, but I’m working on code that has tabs and do NOT want to have to replace all the tabs with spaces.

Is there another setting I am not seeing? I think it would make more sense for Toad to use whatever is leading on the previous line…

This bug has crept back into version 12.1 as 11.6 didn’t do that.

I can't reproduce in 11.6 or 12.1 unless I misunderstand the issue.

I have tab mode set to tabs with tab stop at 4. I turned on the "Show control characters" option so I could more easily see what was in the Editor. In the Editor I add several tabs and carriage return, several more tabs, carriage return, etc. All of my tabs
remain intact.

I think I managed to read the Optimal Fill function in reverse as it works like I would expect with it on (no spaces)
