Timeout Waiting for Connection from Handler FTP

I’m using TDP 4.0 Beta and have started to often receive FTP timeouts saying timeout waiting for the packet from handler. I never experienced this in earlier versions, plus when I retry, the file goes over fine. This is with multiple different FTP sites as well, which is odd how its happening to so many. The question I have is, is there a way to change the timeout settings on FTP, or set up retry’s, etc. for FTP processes using the FTP activity in automation?

Thanks

Hi.

There is no way how to configure other parameters for FTP connection.

When you execute same TAS in TDP 3.8 it is alright, while in TDP 4.0 Beta it is not?

Have you tried different FTP client (browser, command line utility, …)?

We use same component/version for FTP operations in TDP 3.8 and TDP 4.0 Beta.

I am not sure, the issue could exist in 3.8 and 4.0 actually.

Regarding different FTP clients, I have done this and it usually works seamlessly.

Wit that being said, I’m assuming theirs internal timeout controls in the TDP product. Offhand, could these be increased possibly? I hate to say, but maybe they are shorter timeouts than other FTP clients??

Thanks

I created a chore to investiagte (QAT-8196) We will look at this in the next Sprint

Hi Chad

Do you have some picture for this error?

Andy, I apologize for the delay in response. I do not have a screenshot of the issue. In fact though, it actually comes through during task automation running through the scheduler and I see the error through an email that comes through showing the error log response saying timeout waiting for packet from handler on the ftp action. It causes the task to error and stop, but its not any type of pop up or error I’m seeing while running the task directly through toad. Only in the automation through task manager in batch.

Hope this may help.

Thanks

Chad

Chad,

You may have the wrong user for this request! My request is regarding setting variables in automation.

Ken, you may be in the wrong request

This request is specific to some issues regarding FTP timeouts.

Hi Chad

Thanks for your reply. For the timeout thing, I think this is controlled in the server side. Could you please run the same activity by using former TDP build, so that we can know if this is a new issue or just related to network status.

We did recently add the ability to set the timeout for FTP connections. It is hard to test as we don’t have an FTP server not connecting. It will be in the first TDP 4.1 Beta due out in a couple of weeks.

That’s great news. I’d be happy to test. Will try beta and go from there.

Thanks Debbie and TDP Team!

We are working on a patch, TDP 4.0.1. I moved this enhancement into this patch but it missed the Beta. We will probably post one more Beta before we release this patch. Please try it then

Debbie,

I just wanted to mention that I do notice the FTP timeout setting enhancement in TDP 4.1. How amazing, as I do still have some sites that I get timeout issues with. I’m going to increase this setting and am hopeful to watch the logs and see if the increased timeouts now allow for a response after a longer period of time successfully.

I will let you know how it goes.

Thanks!

Just letting you know Debbie the timeout increase works great and is a really wonderful addition to TDP’s FTP feature.

Thanks again.

Chad
