Dear all,
I've just installed 5.5 on my XP work laptop. I didn't use the
commercial installer and used the .msi file instead. It didn't ask me to
import anything from 5.0. It didn't try to uninstall the previous version
5.0.2 either. So in order to migrate my settings, I made a copy of the
application data directory of 5.0 and renamed it as 5.5. It worked with the
exception of snippets. But I get the following error:
But the folder is still there:
Version: 5.5.0.1073
Any ideas?
Regards
Ercan
Hi Ercan,
Strange issue. I don’t know why you didn’t get a request for the
Migration in your case. Migration request should always appear when those two
conditions are presented:
-
there is any previous Toad installation on the machine (5.0.2 in your case)
-
there is no App Data folder for new version (5.5 in your case)
So, I suggest to remove (or rename 5.5 folder) and see if it starts. Copy all
5.0.2 to 5.5 it is not recommended since there is some logic to modify legacy
staff from previous versions to be adopted to current release. I do remember
that at least ‘Couldn’t open schema context’ error was fixed
in this way.
Let me know how it will work.

Ok, it is stranger than I thought. The problem exists on 5.0, too. Please see
the screenshot.
Notice that the error message says "... for language 'SQL
(SQLServer2005)'" but the folder is called "SQL (SQLServer)".
Is that normal? I experimented renaming the folder to "SQL
(SQLServer2005)" but it didn't help. I think Toad somehow lost the path
to the snippets folder, and I have to tell it the correct path. But how?
Cheers

Can you please remove (rename) 5.0 and 5.5 App Data folder and see what happens?
Can you access other toad staff like Auto-replace?

Hi Alex,
Yes, auto-replace works (adn -> and).
I renamed the folders and started 5.5. Toad automatically created a folder in
appdata. It was able to retrieve the snippets. And it was the same for the 5.0,
too. That means, there is no application bug, but either the installation
software or I did something wrong, that made my snippets folder corrupt. But I
have no idea what I could have done wrong...
You're right, this would actually be a case for support. But I don't
think they can get my snippets back... Never mind...
Cheers

Glad to hear that it works!
In case you want to migrate any specific snippets and some other templates from
previous versions – you can copy them manually. But please do not rename
whole App Data folder as you tried below – might work but not 100% J
