Toad "busy" for several seconds every minute

Hi,

I’m just wondering if anyone else is experiencing Toad hanging (with the CPU going up - in my case, to 25% (I’ve four CPU’s showing in task manager)) for several seconds every minute (it’s a minute from the last time it stopped being “busy”). It also causes the Toad screen to “flash” blue very briefly if it’s in the background, and sometimes it grabs the focus from whatever program I’ve got in the foreground (usually IE9 when this happens, if that makes a difference).

Initially, I thought it might have been to do with the fact that I’d been running Toad for 2-3 days with ~6 or 7 connections open, coupled with a problem we’ve noticed where Toad pauses if you have the user files on a network drive instead of locally. However, I have switched to local (C:) user files, and I installed the latest beta (.52) this morning, so imagine my surprise when I noticed that it was happening again, after only 2 or 3 hours of uptime and with only two connections and 4 or 5 windows open.

I also thought it might be related to editor backups or something, but they’re set to save every 3 minutes, so that wouldn’t explain why I was seeing this every minute. Also, there’s nothing showing up in the spool sql to screen window, so it isn’t that Toad is polling for dbms_output or anything.

I’ve tried to recreate the issue, but sadly haven’t had much luck so far. I’ll continue to keep an eye on things though - I’ve now got privileges to see all the processes running on my machine now, so when it happens again, I should be able to see if maybe our anti-virus software is doing something at the same time.

I wonder what it is that Toad is doing every minute? (I see Toad briefly busy every minute when the issue isn’t occurring, but it only takes up to about 6% of the CPU.)

Anyone else experiencing the same thing, or is it just me?

Toad saved its settings every minute. If you zip and send me your user files to michael.staszewskiquest.com I can take a peek.

Hi,

I'm just wondering if anyone else is experiencing Toad hanging (with the CPU going up - in my case, to 25% (I've four CPU's showing in task manager)) for several seconds every minute (it's a minute from the last time it stopped being "busy"). It also causes the Toad screen to "flash" blue very briefly if it's in the background, and sometimes it grabs the focus from whatever program I've got in the foreground (usually IE9 when this happens, if that makes a difference).

I had that happen several betas ago. I tried changing several settings but it go so annoying I just restarted Toad and the problem went away. I have not had it happen in the past few betas.

I am experiencing that exact same issue too.

Exactly every minute TOAD freezes for about 10 seconds. I read somewhere TOAD saves its settings every minute (not talking about the editor window, backup is set to 3 minutes, not 1 minute).

As a workaround I changed the application data directory to a non-network drive. This works but, since we don’t have a fixed workplace, this is merely a workaround, not a permanent solution.

Is is possible to influence the behaviour of TOAD periodically saving it’s settings? I wouldn’t mind changing it to, let’s say, 1 hour.
