I used TOAD to write HTML reports and loved the format for internal users in my company in QA, product management, operations, etc. The ability to click on a diagram in the ERD and link to the SQL info was a great value.
I am now at a new company who uses ERwin. From what I can see Erwin HTML generates PDFs of the ERD and doesn’t have the flexibility of TOAD. This also seems to be the case with the Oracle Sql Developer Data Modeler (SDDM) which is free to Oracle users.
ERwin now offers a web portal (not cheap – I think it is about $8000 or more) that allows users to ad hoc build all kinds of reports. It seems really nice – but for the price it seems that most of what users would need could be found in the TOAD HTML reports.
Am I making sense? Before I go recommending that we buy a copy of TOAD here so I can generate HTML reports internally I’d like to know if it makes sense to do so. . .
