Hello ccevallos,
Could you please elaborate the steps involved while rectifying this issue?
Even i am facing the same issue.
Please help me.
Thank you in advance.
Hi Shivaraj,
I tried to reproduce Carlos's problem but was unable to. Please let me know where your tnsnames.ora file is located.
It should be in one of the following locations:
- In the location specified by a TNS_ADMIN environment variable
- In the same folder as Toad.exe,
- or, if using an Oracle client, in the network\admin folder of your client.
If the file is in one of these locations and Toad is unable to locate your tnsnames.ora, then there is a bug and we need to fix it.
Thanks.
First and foremost, I would like to express my gratitude for your prompt and courteous response.
"I'm new to Toad for Oracle and I'm currently setting up a trial version (17.1). I'm reaching out to confirm the appropriate version of Oracle Instant Client Downloads for Windows to install for compatibility. Additionally, if there are any recommended next steps after installation, I'd be grateful for your guidance."
You don't need an Oracle client at all if you don't want to use one.
If you do want one, just make sure it is the same bitness (32/64) as Toad.
After that, just make sure that your tnsnames.ora file is in one of the locations mentioned above and then you should be ready to go.
If you have any problems, just let us know.

Excuse me, I'm curious about the purpose of the tnsnames.ora file in this context. Could you please clarify what information needs to be included for it to function correctly?
This file is not specific to Toad. Its purpose is to help you identify your databases so you can tell client programs like Toad what to connect to.
You can google for information about this file. This result looks pretty good.

Apologies for what may seem like a basic question, as I'm relatively new to this. Could you please assist me?"
I have placed the file in the path mentioned above. Could you please confirm if the default username and password are being used? Despite that, an error persists. I have attached the file for your reference.
Sorry, I don't know what your username/password values are. Also it looks like the values in your tnsnames.ora file may be incorrect (or the database is just unreachable).
You should talk to the person in your organization who created or knows more about the database that you are trying to connect to.
