Use native XMLTYPE when compatible - does not remember being unchecked

I'm using the following version

Toad for Oracle Base Edition (64-bit)
Add-Ons:
26.2.272.9090

on Window 11 Pro 25H2 OS Build 26200.9168

Every time I start Toad, the "Use native XMLTYPE when compatible" is checked even if I have unchecked it the last time I ran Toad.

I have tested the behaviour on startup both before and after connecting to a database, and in all cases Toad is not remembering that I have unchecked the option previously. Every fresh start of Toad has the option checked.

This requires me to go into the settings and uncheck that option every time I start Toad.

This is only a minor inconvenience until I forget to uncheck it on startup and then run a query that returns an XMLTYPE column which takes forever to return. And yes I read the thread about performance of queries involving fields of that type and found that unchecking the "use native XMLTYPE" option gave me the user experience I was after.

Toad does not seem to be forgetting any other setting that I personalise - just this one.

Thanks,

Mark

Thanks for reporting that Mark. I see the problem and will have it fixed for next beta.

To get the setting to stick in version 26.2, you can put the setting in Toad.ini manually.

  1. Shut down Toad
  2. Open Toad.ini with notepad
  3. Enter the following under [SETTINGS]
    UseNativeXMLType=0
  4. Save and close Toad.ini

A shortcut for steps 1 and 2 is to hold down SHIFT and go to View -> Toad Options in the main menu. If you do this while shift is down, Toad will offer to shut down Toad and open Toad.ini in notepad rather than open the options window.

ps, that other thread, if anyone is interested, is here.

Thanks John - much appreciated. And thanks for the tip about editing the INI file.
