Using TOAD while using a VPN.

I’m a consultant and I often VPN into client’s networks. I am given a domain name to use while doing so. For example, I may be ClientA\DStein on their system and that domain account has access to the various SQL Servers.

However, when I try using Toad using windows authentication I cannot change the domain and user name.

How can I use Toad across a VPN using network authentication?

Hi David,
the only option I can imagine here - use “run as” Windows option. To run Toad process as different process. If you can’t run it as ClientA\DStein on your computer - I’m afraid we can’t deal with this.

Mr. David Stein,

This is not a Toad-SS specific problem this is the access you have been given
for access to your clients systems

I fully agree with your request but this can and will not be allowed at the
server using your domain login. The VPN should give you the rights to login a
server as it you were sitting behind the firewall. So if you can use
ClientA\DStein behind the firewall. Then you are good.

Currently, I use my own system at a client, so I have a domain login for network
access for printing and accessing SQL server systems. I have Full DBA priveleges
to the SA account and I login to the SQL Server System as either SA or a clone
of SA, like HFSA…

Sooo, If I truly want to get onto the server from home, I VPN in and Remote
Desktop to the server, where my ClientA\DStein or ClientName\hfreeman userid
will authenticate to the domain.

I spoke with Quest (Henrik) about overriding the E205_S1904\hfreeman userid to
use the ClientName\hfreeman, but I ran into the same brick wall as you did.

Bottom Line: You Cannot and ShouldNot try to get around the domain security, you
need to ask for the permissions you need to do your work… This keeps the
client security guy happy and keeps them regulatory/homeland security/ sarbanes
oxley compliant.
