What training?

Message from: JaxLBB

Hi

I am due to take over the use of Toad (our system is CareFirst) and need to know
what kind of training I should be getting, can anyone point me in the right
direction?
Is it Oracle or Sql? Or both?
I haven’t used either before (officially) and I have access to some training
budget so want to make sure I get the most appropriate course.

Many thanks (sorry if inappropriate forum for this).

I lean heavily on my Safari Books Online account, TOAD knowledgebase, Toad World
site. Found Bert Scalzo’s “Toad Handbook” very helpful
learning my way around Toad, same for the Toad Coffee Bytes. Book on my desk in
arms reach is Donald Kreines “Oracle Data Dictionary Pocket
Reference.” I like lots of examples when learning a new bit of SQL or
PL/SQL then I practise with the data I know best, my work data, until I have an
idea how it works.

Toad is a tool for Oracle application developers so you would need
training in SQL and/or PL/SQL at the very least. Knowing a bit about how
the database works would be good too - helps you write efficient code.

I assume you have read the Toad docs in the installation/docs directory?

Also, have a gander at www.asktoad.com for more information, and
www.toadworld.com too.

I haven't used either before (officially) and I have access to some

Always wise. Good luck.

Many thanks (sorry if inappropriate forum for this).
Might have been better on toad@yahoogroups.com instead of this one.
This one is mainly for SQL, but no worries. More people monitor the Toad
one though, including the developers.

I've CC'd that list anyway, just in case anyone else wants to chime in.

Welcome to Toad. (Officially!)

TOAD is designed to help you to more easily use the Oracle Database. Because it
relies and complies with Oracle, it will not give your Username access to
anything more than it is allowed by Oracle.

I’ve been using the product over 10 years and have found the following to
be true:

Hi there,

If you can still get on-the-job-training from the person currently using Toad,
that will be by far the most effective. Online Help is, in this case, really
instructive, too.

I can’t recommend this training because I have not used this
company’s services, but they responded immediately when I asked for
information, and they are the only provider I’ve found who offers Toad for
Oracle classes.

Verhoef Training

They may also offer Oracle and SQL training, but for their 3-day Toad-for-Oracle
course, these are the prereq’s:

Basic understanding of Oracle tables and the SQL language

Hope that helps,
