Yahoo groups shutting down

All of these boards will be closing permanently the weekend of April 9th. They
have all the kinks worked out on the Quest Communities and we’ve finally got a
system which is at least as good as the Yahoo Boards (actually superior), which
has always been our criteria in the past when we’ve sought other solutions. So
after that weekend we will see you all over there. I’m glad for it, it’s been a
long time in coming.

This post explains it in detail:

I’ll be sending this reminder out every now and again before then.

About the email functionality of Toad World communities. For Toad SQL I always
receive two emails, from Yahoo and from Toadworld (forgot to remove a setting
somewhere). And the Toadworld is never formatted correctly and the initial
message is always twice in the email? I take a look again and inspect all
settings and hopefully I’m wrong with my aversion to this change.

When the change is made, Yahoo mirroring will end, so you will no longer receive
duplicates.

In regards to formatting, embedded images, history and so forth - the new system
has worked out all those kinks. So it will look nothing like the current emails
from the Quest community.

I doubt anyone has been more fearful of board change than myself given the
importance of it to the product and everyone involved, but having seen the
preview of the production SBS system my fears were allayed.

Hey, Mark. This is certainly good news. The yahoo board was pretty quirky. Are
you going to transfer history so folks can search for topics already covered?

Best regards,
Mike

Hi Mike-

Only the history which occurred when the board began getting mirrored will be
able to be transferred. The Yahoo boards will be moth balled - you’ll still be
able to search them for historical purposes, you just won’t be able to post to
them.

I think it’s good news too. We’ll be gaining vastly more. Steve Hilker outlines
the benefits in his post. We’re also moving the AskToad.com Wiki over to the
communities

My reaction was also based on fear. Fear of change (as many people have).
I’m curious to the change and checked if my account is working on toadworld
and everything looks ok.

I have attached an email thread from when we were testing the system. The links
and images will probably be broken, but it gives you a good idea of what the
formatting will look like.

Some other community news:

· Anyone who is registered with the communities can create wiki articles.
Hopefully this will encourage wiki participation.

· The Toad dev team can easily convert forum threads into wiki articles. I’m
also trying to grant this ability to selected power users. This feature should
make it much easier to save valuable info from the forum abyss.

· We also have a new idea management system that is integrated with the
communities, and it will replace the system we’re currently using for Idea Pond.
Expect that migration to happen this summer.

One of the things I’m unclear of after reading the blog post is what URL I should be going to so that I can see this new communities page.

Mike

www.toadworld.com and start looking around. There is a lot to see there.

The new boards for Toad, ToadBeta and ToadSQL aren’t live yet Mike

Ahh, that makes a lot of sense. OK, much clearer now
