AW: ALT + Left/Right produce special character

Hi Brad,

Locale German (Germany), Keyboard German

I also tried to switch to “English (USA), Keyboard US”, same behavior.

Also does not make a difference if I use my Laptop-Keyboard or the USB-Keyboard.

And this also happened with my previous workstation

Anything else I can provide?

Best regards, Peter

Peter,

What is your locale set to? What about your keyboard?

Thanks,

Brad

ALT + Left/Right produce special character

Thread created by Peter Lang

When using ALT + Left/Right to navigate after jumping with CTRL+Click, a special character is inserted after releasing ALT-Button.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Post the following code (no need to compile)

CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE BODY test_package AS
PROCEDURE test_procedure AS BEGIN NULL; END test_procedure;
BEGIN
test_procedure();
END;

  1. Ctrl+Click the call of test_procedure (jumps to declaration).

  2. Use ALT+Left to navigate back
    When releasing the ALT-Key, the following character is inserted: :diamonds:

Using ALT+Right afterwards adds this one: :spades:

That’s what the code looks like afterwards:

CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE BODY test_package AS
:spades:PROCEDURE test_procedure AS BEGIN NULL; END test_procedure;
BEGIN
test_proc♦edure();
END;

Go to options > Toolbars/Menus > Shortcuts. Sort by the “shortcut” column. Do you see anything beginning with “Alt” in there?

What is your Editor font? (Options > Editor > Display > Fonts)

Also check your auto replace settings. Maybe something in there is triggering this?

Ctrl+Clicking is a required step, Navigation needs to be possible.

The buttons “Navigate back” and “Navigate forward” do not trigger those characters.

Please also see my other mails for more information.

Thanks, Peter

I cannot reproduce. Is CTRL+Clicking first a required step? What if you use the toolbuttons to navigate forward and back instead of ALT+[Left|Right]? They are the blue circles with left and right arrows in them.

Hi,

I do not have enough strength to reproduce this …

Brg,

Damir

Since I still have this problem and the previous mails have resulted in different threads, I’ll try to consolidate the information:

  • Steps to reproduce are already in this thread.

  • This only happens when navigation is actually possible (Ctrl-Click was performed before).

  • The buttons “Navigate back” and “Navigate forward” do not trigger those characters.

  • I cannot reproduce this in any other application

  • This also happens with a different keyboard

  • Keyboard setting is German (Germany), but changing to English (USA) makes no difference

  • This only happens when NUM-LOCK is activated

  • The characters produced are exactly those that can also be created with ALT+Numblock 4 or ALT+Numblock 6

Any other ideas?

I can reproduce this behaviour in any application where you can input text. It is windows behaviour (even MSDOS?). It is the way high ASCII is entered.
End of discussion?

Groetjes,
Wim

Hi Wim, not sure if we are talking about the same thing here.

ALT+4 and ALT+6 are supposed to create these characters, but Cursor-LEFT or Cursor-RIGHT? Why would it then only happen after successful navigation but not when navigation is not possible?
