'Compare files' utility

I frequently use the ‘compare files’ utility to compare code such as sql and also .txt files which often contain data.

.

I often notice that my data files seem to have rows repeated, for example, I produced a data file today to compare to one from yesterday. The files both had about the same number of rows, 2431, and are in the same sequence. However, the compare showed a row count of 3495.

.

What is causing some of the rows to appear more than once?

.

I did a clean install on a new computer recently so there should be no leftover settings or anythign else affecting the program.

I don’t know but if you can send me your files I’ll take a look. You can send to john.dorlon@quest.com.

John, I would have to duplicate the problem with different data. The current files are full of confidential data (ssn, name, dob). Could I just attach in a future reply?

Sure. Please don’t send me real SSNs. I don’t want that kind of responsibility! You can block select them in the Editor and type over them all at the same time.

Sreenivas,

We send the cancel command to Oracle but sometimes it takes time for Oracle to respond.

Please, in the future, start a separate thread rather than adding your question to an existing thread.
