Ctrl-C in Grid

Apparently I do a ctrl-c with data selected in the grids a lot, so I’ve had a chance to see how this works.

I love the fact that I can get the strings quoted. I often select a subset of data from a single column and then put it into an IN statement. I’ve had to create a find/replace macro to change those values to quote comma separated. With the dialog, I can now get the quotes, but I can’t get the commas. So it would be great to have an option to add a delimiter at the end of the lines as opposed to a field delimiter (which is not used if there is a single column). Or a new export format option for an IN statement that already does that for me.

I also find that I use different options depending on which export format I select or whether I enter this dialog from a Ctrl-C or the right-click Export Grid Contents. When I’m selecting a single column for an IN statement, I generally don’t want the headers, but if I’m exporting to Excel I do.

I especially appreciate the fact that this always defaults to Delimited Text, despite whatever I last exported as. Though if you add the IN option, I can almost guarantee that I would want that to be my default export format. Is it possible to allow the user to set the default they want to use for this dialog?

Thanks for the upgrade on this. My quality of life has just improved yet again thanks for Toad.

Blessings,

Phyllis

There’s an option near the bottom to choose delimiter, so you can change it to commas too.

There’s no way to set the default at this time, but I’ll think about how to do that. That dialog is so crowded, adding anything is a challenge.

The problem with the delimiter is that it only separates column values. In my case, I only have one column selected so there is no need for a delimiter after it. What I need is a row delimiter.

And thank you for displaying my filter names on the grids. This is also going to make my life better

Oh, gotcha. Check “include delimiter after last column”

Ah! Don't know how I missed that. Thank you so much!

on the “in” format idea - were you hoping for everything on a single line or is it OK to keep one value per line as it does now?

One value for line is fine. Most of the time it will format that way anyway.

Ok, Phyllis - next beta will have an “in list” checkbox among the options for “Delimited Text”. You should just be able to select some values out of a single column in the grid, do a CTRL+C, then check the “In list” checkbox, then hit OK. You won’t have to mess with any other settings when you check that box. They’ll be adjusted automatically when you check the “in list” box.

Thank you very much!

Is it possible to have ctrl/c configurable so I can go back to the old behavior? I also use ctrl/c a lot to copy one or two values from the grid and then I don’t need the full capabilities of the export dataset options, I just want a quick copy. When I want more extensive copy options, I still have the rt-click -> Export Dataset available.

When I made this change I started to make it an option, but then I decided to wait and see if anyone would ask for it. So yeah, I’ll make it an option.

If you copy one value, you should get the old behavior. Right now, it should just kick in the Export Dataset for 2 or more.

The IN List is nice so far. Will you please create some keyboard shortcut for selecting this - otherwise I need to use my mouse to select it which slows me down. I'm a huge fan of keyboard shortcuts.

Oh, and it would also be nice to have Toad remember that I selected it between Ctrl-Cs. I tend to get into projects where I'm selecting a couple values to compare, pasting them into an existing SQL statement where clause, viewing results, making a decision and working on the next set of values. Right now I'm trying to resolve duplicates in a table using filters on the F4 grid.

I guess I can remember the setting but ignore it if you have multiple columns selected.

Next beta:

  1. Export dataset for CTRL+C is configurable in Options -> Data Grids -> Visual

  2. “In list” option is remembered (but ignored unless only one column is selected)

  3. keyboard shortcuts added to export dataset: You can use Alt+I to toggle the “In List” option

Sweet! Thank you again for this, John.
