This is one area where even experienced dba’s make mistakes …

The node specific entries are supposed to be the rela ip addresses, the generic
is supposed to point to the node specific virtual IP’s (vips) –
which can float

But many people miss this last part – and while they get proper load
balancing, they do not get true fault tolerance ….

// *Cause: Unable to locate shared memory realm

Sounds to me like you are connecting to a database that isn’t up. As
this is RAC, are all nodes running?
