Is there a way of searching backwards

After a CTRL-F has been used to set the search value F3 finds forwards. Is there
a way of going backwards?

Shift+F3.

Note that the first time you do this it appears as though nothing has happened,
but that it’s doing is reversing direction so that the caret position is now at
the start of the match instead of at the end as when searching forwards. It
sounds trivial to just make it skip that step and go to the previous match, but
it’s surprisingly rather involved.

Yes using the windows standard SHIFT-F3 combo.

I tried that and it did not seem to work. After I got this message I tried again. I had done SHIFY-F3 only once and had not noticed a difference.

But now I see that when you do F3 it leaves the curser at the end of the selection so SHIFT-F3 brings you to the beginning of the same selection. Doing it again goes to a previous one and so on …

So it feels like you have to do it twice to change direction.
