Moving the User Files folder?

TOAD for Oracle 9.7.2.5
Windows XP Pro SP3

Can the default location for User Files be changed?
Mine is “C:\Documents and Settings\Application Data\Quest Software\Toad for Oracle\9.7\User Files” but I want to move it to another location.

At work we use virtual PCs and roaming profiles so we can log on to any thin-client PC and get our own desktop. Unfortunately we also have strict profile space quotas too (only 30Mb). TOAD uses up 15Mb of that just with /User Files/.

I’ve tried moving the folder structure and then re-running TOAD, and selecting the new folder when prompted, but it just copies the files back to the default location.

How can I move the User Files folder permanently to another location (one that isn’t considered part of my roaming profile)?

Cheers
Richard

Hey Richard,

I think this will work:

  1. Make a copy of the user files folder (you’ll be able to delete the original later)
  2. start up Toad
  3. Go to Options|General and enter the new location in the “user files directory” box
  4. restart Toad
  5. when you are sure settings are being written to the new location, delete the old. An easy way to do this would be to look in Toad.ini for a familliar setting, and change it in options.

By the way, I’m not sure why your user files folder is that big - maybe you have a lot of saved sql. Anyway, you might want to have a look around in there for relatively big files. You may be able to delete them. If you aren’t sure what some file is for, just ask.
