I would like to import my named filters (for database explorer) from an older version. Where is the (xml?) file these are kept in?

You could try the following. You may want to back up your settings folder first in case you run into an issue.
Close Toad (all versions)
Copy the filters from here (old Toad): C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Quest Software\Toad for SQL Server 4.6\Context
to the new Toad folder of the same name.
The folder will be different for Windows XP (Look in the Application Data or Application Data folder under the user folder).
I have’t tested this, but I think that might work.
