I am aware of the global possibility for ordered connections which would then also apply for the workspace. I tried it and ran into the problem, that I either had to sort the complete list of connections or live with the chance that my ordering would be broken again, if I opened up another connection after loading a workspace (because the workspace connections have been ordered while being “active connections” but have connections “between them” in the global scope). Having more than 150 different connections plus the somewhat limited ordering functions made me think, that it would be very handy if workspaces would do that by default and without affecting a global ordering list. Further connections buttons would just appear after the last workspace connection, as they would without any ordering, given there is no global ordering defined.
